Download South African postal codes list for free

I’ve seen various requests for the postal codes of South Africa (or zip codes) to be made available in a downloadable format but couldn’t find any available for free.
There’s the official South African Post Office (SAPO) page that allows you to only search for the one you are looking for: Search by location name or by post code
As well as the listings on SouthAfrica.co.za

So, I decided to create my own and make it available to all for free download here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/201gi68niys161n/SapoPostalCodesSouthAfrica19Nov2011.xls

Did you know that there are 16,740 postal codes in South Africa?

Please post comments if you notice any errors or omissions.

  7. Thank you. Incredible useful. I hope you are a manager somewhere. The absence of this on the SAPO page shows management problems, that you do it initiative and sound management thinking. I hope the Post office links to it and as sign of appreciation offers you free postage for life.

No, I'm in now way linked to SAPO... and I agree that it should be available from the SAPO web site.

    1. Hi Francisca

I've just tested the file download and it works fine - it is a .xls file (Microsoft Excel)

Try downloading the file again - if it doesn't work then let me know and we can make a plan

      Regards HTT ;)

  15. Hey, thank you so much for this. Would you believe the official postoffice.co.za site allows you to download the postal codes database but its completely useless in terms of postal codes since all the street codes are the same and no box codes are filled in either. The only thing you can get from it is a list of suburbs per area.

  20. Thanks a stack. FYI for others who want to use the link above. It is still active (24 October 2018) however you need to change the URL by replacing "http" to "https". Alas, this list does not contain geolocation info.
